SKINT 2009

Scandinavian & International Music and Dance Party weekend
(SkInt Weekend) 6-8 November 2009

Introduction

SkInt takes place in a beautiful Derbyshire village hall for a Euro/International party like you’ve never seen before. Inspired by J2ohn Stewart, it’s a low cost, informal weekend with an opportunity for people to sample Euro/International music & dance, especially Scandinavian, and is aimed at those who haven’t tried this kind of thing before and those who'd like to pass on their enthusiasm to others.

Programme

it's fairly informal, with no booked bands and workshops and sessions arranged according to requests, offerings and enthusiasm. This year, there's a good chance you may encounter Swedish, Swing, and Eastern European.

Accommodation

The institute has one large room with great acoustics for music and dancing, and sitting rooms for sleeping / sessions / a children's room. Floor space is limited, so please sign up (from the homepage) as soon as possible.

Food

All food (from Fri evening to Sun lunch) will be vegetarian. Please bring your own booze, and any special snacks or food extras [apple chutney, plum cake, olives] etc. that you might like to share or can't live without. If you've questions or would like to help prepare/bring any food in advance, please contact Susannah via s.m.diamond@shu.ac.uk or 07922 205206

How to get there

Tideswell Institute is just behind the 'Cathedral of the Peak', in Tideswell, Derbyshire.

Are you driving? Please offer a lift if you can. Need a lift? Check Freewheelers.

Car parking

It's possible to bring about 12 cars directly beside the Tideswell Institute, but it is a tight fit with a narrow convoluted way to get in!  It's a good idea to check the best way in before bringing a vehicle in and risking a dent to your paintwork.

Payment

Meals are planned at £2-5 according to meal and budget and we pay for the hall according to number of people sleeping (£5pppn). However, don’t worry if you are actually skint, that’s kind of the point!!! All money is dealt with via a donations box. So really all you need to bring is dancing feet, instruments and smiles.

Lastly

The countryside is beautiful around and about so there will also be an opportunity to walk, so bring warm things and strong shoes. Indoor/outdoor games also welcome!
