What is Skint?
Skint is a weekend of international music and dance, held each year at Tideswell village hall in the Derbyshire Peak District.
During the day there are workshops for dancers and musicians, for both complete beginners and the more experienced.
The bals in the evening feature music and dancing from a variety of European traditions, much of which will have been taught earlier in the day.
It's a low-cost, small, easy-going and friendly festival in a beautiful part of the world!
How Skint works
Skint works because everyone contributes, in some form or other! Musicians play for dancing, dancers appreciate their music, and everyone helps out a little in the kitchen (chopping, stirring, washing, drying!)
All of the workshop leaders and performers are unpaid volunteers. If you'd like to offer to play or teach something do get in touch by email, or add a comment to the sign-up form.
Accommodation is 'indoor camping', which means sleeping bags and mattresses on the floor. There are different rooms allocated for early-risers, families and late-risers. You'll need to bring a sleeping bag, mat and pillow. If you can't get hold of these, let us know, we can probably help.
The hall costs us £5 per person per night so if you are staying over we'd really appreciate you dropping the relevant amount into the donations box.
There are B&Bs nearby.
Meals are vegetarian and cost between £2 and £5, depending on whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner. Other diets, e.g. vegan, gluten-free, can be catered for. Let us know when you sign up.
Please bring your own drinks, water and juice will be provided.
Transport to Tideswell is easy. The nearest stations are Buxton and Hope (both about 20 minutes drive away). The bus 65 from Buxton to Tideswell runs infrequently, every 1-2 hours. The bus 173 from Hope also runs every 2 hours. Alternatively, get in touch and we'll try to organise someone to pick you up from the station.
If you're driving, be aware that there is very little parking adjacent to the hall and this is reached by some very narrow lanes, with 90° corners. Please don't drive down without checking out the route first! There is plenty of parking in the village, less than 5 minutes walk from the hall.
